Happy Thanksgiving...first graders collected 245 cans for Catholic Charities... the Lower Mills campus collected over 1100cans Happy November Birthdays to our first grade teachers and our students Happy News that in a few weeks we will move into our beautiful new building.... October 30, 2015 The Trip to the Franklin Park Zoo was very informative about giraffes(too cold to be outside) and gorillas because they like to play wrestle and chase each other around. The snakes and birds and zebras and all the other animals which we saw on a cool fall day made for a satisfying field trip. Thanks to our capable and fun loving chaperones, too. On Friday, the Pride pin for Friendship was awarded to Isaiah and A'Liyah for modeling, demonstrating and performing acts of friendship, which start in their hearts, and extend to other hearts. Our Science Story We went on a Nature Walk with our grade 7 buddies.We touched acorns. They are oak tree seeds. We might have taken a small rock back with us. We saw worms, ants and spiders. One of us saw a snake! Squirrels were easy to find but birds were nowhere to be found.(They were hiding) Our work week We have started Reading Street Unit 1.1 We are working on subtraction... I would like to begin the General Knowledge part of first grade life with the answers to these questions (you will need to help) 1. How many states in the USA? 4. What state do you live in? 2. What does USA mean? 5. What is the capital of your state? 3. How many stars are on the flag? 6. What city or town do you live in?

Previously in 1B: Evalysse and Myles were awarded Spirit pins for their continued demonstration of "being the Light of Christ" Pope Francis has visited America and left us with words of PEACE and LOVE. We will be talking about his messages in class and hope that you will do so at home. The International Day of Peace was September 21st and we made and displayed our Pinwheels for Peace with words of love and peace inscribed within, as well as our "children of peace" scrolls which hang in the gym. Please take a look. Congratulations to Mrs. Nesti and Mrs. O'Sullivan for their Yawkey Teacher awards for outstanding and informed teaching.
